Division of Biblical / Theological Studies

The purpose of the programs / courses in this division is primarily to equip students for ministry in and through the local New Testament church. This equipping involves exposing students to the principles of Scripture, giving them the tools for discovering such principles, and communicating them to others.

Theoretical knowledge and varied practical experience in the areas of human relationships, cultural differences, local church ministries, evangelism and missions are provided to develop or enhance the student’s ministry skills.

GOALS

  • To provide instruction that gives the student a broad Biblical foundation specifically the knowledge and understanding of Bible doctrine, theology and Christian principles, as well as the skills to research and interpret the Scriptures and present them logically and confidently.
  • To familiarize students with a cross culture of people and to present methods and techniques whereby all people may be reached with the Gospel and discipled.
  • To equip students for a two-fold evangelism (salvation and discipleship) to the whole world with a special emphasis on missions and the local New Testament church.
  • To provide instruction and training in ministry practices of the pastor and the missionary. This would include church planting; overseeing its ministries, worship and ordinances; counseling and ministering to the congregation; and “rightly dividing the Word of truth” (II. Timothy 2:15b).
Objectives: 

Graduates from this division should be able to:

  • Demonstrate the skills necessary for sound exegesis and interpretation of the English Bible and be able to preach and teach It, as well as the principles of Christian living.
  • Demonstrate their knowledge and understanding from a Baptist perspective, of the nature, history, and strategic importance of the local church in church planting, evangelism, and missionary activity in any culture.
  • Discuss in writing with support from a biblical perspective, his/her philosophy for organizing, building, and the administration of a local church in any culture, which will include worship, church ordinances, and various ministries such as meeting special needs of the congregation.
  • Demonstrate Christian ethics regarding the ministry of the pastor, missionary and entities, and/or individuals that are affiliates with one’s ministry.
