Core Classes

  1. Students will learn the dynamics of team function while coming to understand the fundamentals of several team sports. Tennis, volleyball, basketball and softball are among the experiences students will be offered.

    (May be repeated for credit.)

  2. A study of American literature from the Colonial period through the Civil War/Reconstruction era is covered. The course emphasizes the literary significance of selected writers, their works, and the social context in which they wrote.

  3. Beginning with the close of the frontier and continuing with the impact of American industrialization, this course studies social development from agrarian society to international leadership. Problems of 20th century involvement are analyzed and discussed.

  4. An introduction to basic Bible doctrine is offered, emphasizing definitions of terms. Nine of the ten major doctrines of the Bible (Bibliology, Theology, Christology, Pneumatology, Anthropology, Hamartiology, Angelology, Soteriology, and Eschatology) are discussed.

  5. The student will be introduced to the various tools of Bible study, the methodical and inductive approaches to the study of Scripture, and the principles of interpretation. Opportunity is given for students to use methods and tools effectively by studying several portions of Scripture.

  6. This course is designed to develop within each student an appreciation for the complexity of creation. The classification of life forms is examined from single-celled organisms to the intricate body systems of human beings. Many practical applications are emphasized for the implementation of health programs for both the individual’s lifestyle and the student’s ministry.

    Co-requisite: Natural Science Laboratory III - SCI 2107

  7. The student will be introduced to basic algebra as it is used in business. Many practical applications such as insurance, tax rates, mortgage, credit interest and investments are studied.

    Prerequisite: MAT 0390 or placement test.

  8. The student will be introduced to algebra as it is applied in every day life. Algebraic concepts, including but not limited to functions, linear equations, quadratic equations, and systems of equations are studied.

    Prerequisite: MAT 0392 or placement test.

  9. Weight training, aerobics, calisthenics, and other body conditioning techniques are introduced in this course. Students will be shown how a programmed approach to exercise can contribute to good health.

  10. This course is an introduction to creative writing formats that may include workshop, lecture, and individual conferences. Students will write in two or three genres, including poetry, prose fiction, and other forms.
