Exciting News!

70th Anniversary Seal
On July 14, 2009, the Texas Education Agency was on the campus of Arlington Baptist College to evaluate the Educator Certification Programs.   After spending the afternoon on the campus and reading the self-study report, the two assessors were quite complimentary about what they saw taking place. They even asked if they could share with other universities some of the things we were doing!
Because of their report, the college may face fewer obstacles as we seek the state's approval of our two graduate programs: Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, and Master of Education in Educational Leadership.  We anticipate being able to begin offering these two programs in 2010.  If you are considering further training as an educator, keep our program in mind.
Also, our best recruiters are our alumni.  If you know of individuals who are seeking the type of education that will help them become highly trained professionals, Arlington Baptist College may very well be the place for them.  Our mission is to graduate individuals who are well equipped to influence the world for Christ through their ministry in the classroom.  You can assist us achieve that goal by recommending our program to others.

Opportunity for you

After serving more than two years as the coordinator of the Educators' Alumni Association, Professor Vickie Brown is turning over the leadership of the organization to the competent and talented alumni.  At this time, the Association is in need of individuals to fill four leadership positions: President, Assistant-President, Program Director, and Publications Assistant.   If you believe that God is leading you into one of these servant-leadership positions please contact Professor Brown at changeat47@hotmail.com. We hope to have these positions filled quickly and look forward to seeing what the Lord does through these visionaries.

Grant Approval

In May 2009, Arlington Baptist College received its first ever grant funding.  The Arlington Historical Preservation Foundation chose to fund $12,727 in restoration work to the historical structures on the campus.  Thanks to the tireless work of alums Christi Sanders (2007), Colt Turner (2007), and Shawna Turner (2007) this goal became a reality.  This is just one more example of the invaluable contributions that alumni make to the successful accomplishment of the mission and vision of Arlington Baptist College.

You Never Know Where God Will Lead
by: Becky M. King (2006)

As of June 1, 2009, I became the Head Administrator atangie arthur ChristWay Academy in Duncanville, Texas. I originally applied for this position in the spring of 2008 just for the experience in interviewing for an administrative position. My only goal in this endeavor was to obtain an interview. I received a call in July 2008 offering me an assistant principal position, but I did not feel God was calling me to that position at that time.  Therefore, I continued teaching at Fellowship Academy in Arlington. This past winter I knew God was leading me from Fellowship Academy so I sent a resume to ChristWay Academy. I went in for several interviews, and I was soon offered the position of Head Administrator.  After a great deal of prayer, I felt this was God's calling.
I have now been on the job almost two months, and the joys, challenges, and work have already begun. I have a wonderful, supportive staff that truly loves God, is willing to sacrifice, and do whatever job is needed to expand the Kingdom of God through our Christian school ministry. The parents at ChristWay Academy have extended a warm welcome as well. As the students arrive in August, I know there will be more joy, challenges, and work.
I have had to deal with many administrative challenges in these first few weeks. The principal at Fellowship Christian Academy in Fort Worth and my good friend, Anita Fagerberg, gave me some wonderful words of advice, "Ask for God's guidance in all you do and then don't be surprised when He gives it to you." At first I thought that was somewhat odd advice, but I soon realized what she meant. Administration is full of challenging work, hard decisions, and uncomfortable conversations. Seeking God's will and direction through prayer and reading Scripture has revealed the guidance I have needed to make some difficult decisions. I have also discovered that faith is a necessity in Christian school administration. I noticed that I had a bad habit of checking enrollment numbers frequently and "stressing out" over the lack of numbers on paper. I finally gave it to God and have reduced the amount of worry; I am still concerned but not worrying.
In addition to the usual tasks of starting a new position and school year, God provided the opportunity in June for ChristWay Academy to enter the process for accreditation. We have begun the self-study process by rewriting our student and teacher handbooks. This process has given me a deeper understanding of the purpose behind school policies and has allowed me the opportunity to evaluate our academic standards.
If you are ever rolling down I-20 feel free to exit at Cedar Ridge Dr. and head south.  ChristWay Academy is on the right so stop in and visit us. Chances are you will hear me quoting Mrs. Brown or Dr. Vincent, kind of like when you hear your mother's words come out of your mouth to your own children...well, I sometimes hear their words when I am talking. I thank God for the invaluable education I received at Arlington Baptist College. I was well prepared for classroom teaching and gaining my Masters in Educational Leadership from Tennessee Temple University.  All of these experiences have prepared me for where God has led me...and you never know where He will lead.

Candeo 2009
angie arthurOur Candeo Banquet took place at the college's dining room on the evening of May 8, 2009.  A group of mentor teachers, graduating pre-service teachers, alumni, and faculty met to encourage and welcome this newest class to the profession of teaching.  Angie Arthur, reading instructor at Faith Christian School in Grapevine, spoke to those in attendance on Extreme Makeover-Jesus Style.  Pray for these graduates as they launch their teaching careers.  (Candeo photos supplied by George Moreno)
