This sequence of courses introduces the student to sight singing using the tonic solfasolamization system. Ear training includes simple melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic dictation. Exercises progress to a level of moderate difficulty. Prerequisite: Proficiency exam or equivalent.

An introduction to 18th century harmony with practical experience in analysis, part-writing, and keyboard realization is given. The study includes primary and secondary triads, non-harmonic tones, triads in inversions, principles of chord progressions, seventh chords, secondary dominant chords and elementary modulation.
Prerequisite: Proficiency exam or equivalent.

This course includes part-writing of figured bass exercises, melody harmonization and harmonic analysis requiring all diatonic seventh chords, secondary dominant chord modulation, altered chords, 9th, 11th, and 13th chords. Prerequisite: MUT2302 or equivalent. |
